Carbon fibre (CF) 3D printing

Carbon fibre plastics (PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PA-CF) have short carbon fibres mixed into the filament. Parts come out stiffer, lighter and more dimensionally stable than with the base plastic, with a matte finish that hides layer lines. Heat and chemical resistance depend on the base: PA-CF handles the most.

What it is good for

  • Brackets and arms that must not flex
  • Drones, RC and weight-critical parts
  • Jigs and templates with stable dimensions
  • Technical car and motorbike parts (PA-CF)

When not to use it

  • Parts that must bend or take impacts
  • Clips and snap fits
  • Parts that must insulate electricity

Carbon fibre (CF) vs Glass fibre (GF): Compared with glass fibre: stiffer and lighter, but more brittle and more expensive. Glass fibre handles impacts better and insulates electricity. See Glass fibre (GF) →
